Independence Day celebrated across KP, Fata

PESHAWAR: The Independence Day was celebrated on Monday across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas with tradition zeal. Colorful ceremonies were arranged at the district and agency headquarters to mark the occasion.

CHITRAL: The flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Polo Ground. Officials of the Chitral Scouts, Elite Force, Levies Force and district administration were present on the occasion. Speakers highlighted the sacrifices of the heroes of Pakistan Movement.

BANNU: The workers of political parties, schoolchildren and civil society members arranged special programmes to mark the day. The participants on this occasion also offered special prayers for the country’s security, peace and prosperity.

MANSEHRA: The day was celebrated here with great pomp and show. Different programmes and rallies were held across the district. A ceremony was held on the premises of District Prison where Tehsil Nazim Khurram Khan Swati was the chief guest.

Hazara University also held flag hoisting ceremony which was attended by Vice-Chancellor Dr Idrees, ex-vice-chancellor Dr Ashraf Adil and Chairman Agriculture Research Council Dr Yousaf Zafar.

HARIPUR: The Independence Day was marked here with national zeal and enthusiasm. The flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Government Postgraduate College for Boys Haripur. The main function was held at the Government Centennial Model School for Boys No.1

Former provincial minister Yousaf Ayub was the chief guest. Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Khan, Assistant Commissioner Sahira Rehman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Syed Saiful Islam, District Education Officer Umar Khan Kundi and officials of education and other government departments attended the function.

Traditional horse dance, fireworks was held and students from different schools presented physical training show, national anthem and songs highlighting the sacrifices of the national heroes.

MARDAN: The day was also celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour across the district. People had decorated homes, shops and vehicles with national flags. Almost all government buildings were illuminated.

The main event was held at Sports Complex Mardan where District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar was the chief guest. He hoisted the national flag.

District Naib Nazim Asad Ali, Commissioner Mardan Zakir Hussain Afridi, Deputy Commissioner Mardan Imran Hamid Sheikh, police officials, representatives of traders and people belonging to different walks of life were also present.

The schoolchildren sang the national anthem and songs on the occasion. Other functions, rallies and ceremonies were also arranged in various parts of the district to highlight the sacrifices and struggle of the people during the Pakistan Movement. SWABI: The day was also celebrated here at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

Dr Javed A Chattha, Pro-Rector (Academic), was chief guest at the flag-hoisting ceremony. The academic staff, students of GIK College and employees attended the event.

District administration, leaders of various political parties, Swabi Women University, University of Swabi and all other educational institutions also organised separate functions to mark the day.

TIMERGARA: Though the main function to mark the Independence Day celebrations at the Government Centennial Model High School Timergara in Lower Dir was suspended for security reason, dozens of colourful functions were held inside boundary walls at all the seven tehsils of the district.

The national flag was hoisted at the office of the deputy commissioner at Balambat where a contingent of Dir Levies presented guard of honour. District Nazim Muhammad Rasul Khan, deputy commissioner Lower Dir Attaur Rahman and a large number of locals were present on the occasion.

The Lower Dir chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) arranged a function where party activists Sardar Javed Akhtar, Malik Farooq Iqbal, Malik Jehanzeb Khan, Saeed Ghani and others spoke on the occasion.  

LAKKI MARWAT: Different functions and events were also held in various parts of the district. The flag hoisting ceremony was held in Adnan Shaheed Sports Complex at Tajazai.

District Nazim Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, District Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani, Member Provincial Assembly Zarin Zia, civil and army officials attended the function. Archery competitions, volleyball matches and mushaira sessions were also held besides a car and bike rally in Lakki city to mark the day.

MINGORA: The Independence Day celebrations were held in Swat with national zeal. Civil and military officials attended several functions held at various places in the district. General Officer Commanding Major General Ali Amir also pinned promotion badges to 20 officers at a function here.

Residents of Matta tehsil also celebrated the day despite ban on gathering due to security reasons. Schools and other official buildings were illuminated.

NOWSHERA: A function was also held at the District Police Headquarters to mark the Independence Day. Students and writers also attended a function organised at the Government Postgraduate College here. Deputy Commissioner Khwaja Muhammad Zeeshan hoisted national flag during the function. A separate function was organised by the Nowshera Cantonment Board.

CHARSADDA: The main function of the Independence Day celebrations was held at the Wali Khan Sports Complex. Government officials, students and journalists attended the event. District Nazim Fahad Riaz was the chief guest on the occasion. A function was also organised at the Bacha Khan University Campus to mark the day.

KARAK: Independence Day was commemorated here with national zeal. A ceremony was held at the Khushal Khan Khattak University where Vice-Chancellor Dr Jehan Bakht hoisted the national flag

He shed light on the importance of the day and struggle for the Freedom Movement. On the occasion, students presented naat, national anthem and songs were presented to pay homage to the heroes of the motherland.

BARA: Like other parts of the county, the tribesmen in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency also celebrated Independence Day with national zeal and enthusiasm.

Member National Assembly (MNA) from Khyber Agency Nasir Khan Afridi hoisted national flag at the Bar Qambarkhel. Rallies were also held in Bar Qambarkhel, Malikdinkhel and Bara Bazaar.

Assistant Political Agent Bara, Arshad Khan Afridi, former MNA Muhammad Shah Afridi, Malik Zahir Shah Afridi, Malik Haleem Gul Afridi, JI amir for Khyber Agency Shah Faisal Afridi, members of the Anjuman-Tajiran Bara and others took part in the rallies.

Different functions were also organised at various schools in Bara Bazaar. Students presented tableaus and national songs highlighting the importance of independence.

JAMRUD: The tribesmen celebrated Independence Day with zeal here. Tribal elders hoisted national flag at the Khyber Pass and took out rallies in which a large number of youth and children also participated.

They also arranged music shows besides special programmes at a school where students presented tableaus highlighting the importance of independence.

KALAYA: The celebrations were held at the Orakzai Agency Headquarters. Political Agent Iqbal Khalid hoisted the national flag to mark the day.

GHALLANAI: A function was held at the Political Compound of the Mohmand Agency to mark the Independence Day. Political Agent Mehmood Aslam was chief guest at the event. Schoolchildren presented tableaus while sports events were also organised.

MIRANSHAH: Functions were arranged in Miranshah and Razmak towns of the North Waziristan Agency to mark the day. The national flag was hoisted at the Younas Khan Sports Complex at a special ceremony.

The ceremony was performed by GOC Major-General Azhar Hassan Hayat. Political Agent Kamran Afridi and tribal elders were present on the occasion as well. School children presented national songs.

A function was arranged in the Razamk as well. Assistant Political Agent of Razmak Saleem Jan Marwat hoisted the national flag. Other events were also held.
