Restructuring continues in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s organisational set-up with Ghazi Salahuddin, who was looking after the party’s media affairs, being relieved from duty on Wednesday.
The senior leader would, however, continue to serve as a member of the Central Executive Council, as per the decision taken in a joint meeting of the party’s London and Karachi secretariats.
The move followed Tuesday’s major reshuffle in the Coordination Committee body, which saw
Mustafa Azizabadi appointed as in-charge and Amir Khan, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Dr Nusrat Shoukat as joint in-charges.
However, party sources told The News that some major changes remain in the offing and hinted at important portfolios for certain past stalwarts and founding members.
Of the three joint heads, Amir Khan has been tasked with managing the party’s executive affairs, including a complete reformation of the party structure from the sector to unit in-charge level.
Reorganising the entire coordination body would also be one of his immediate task as, according to the sources, senior leaders and workers had lodged complaints with the party high command over being ignored for high-level zonal, unit and sector positions.
Similarly, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui would now deal with parliamentary affairs, which have been a particular cause for Altaf Hussain’s recent ire towards party members. The MQM chief has been perturbed over party lawmakers’ failure to play an effective role in the assembly and Siddiqui has been chosen to turn matters around.
