Islamabad: The residents have demanded of the concerned authorities to take notice of dilapidated condition of the IJ Principal Road during the monsoon season despite the fact that it has been re-constructed only few months ago.

Zulqarnain Haider, a resident of New Katarian, said the IJ Prinipal Road has been constructed few months ago but it has developed ditches only after few heavy rains in the monsoon season, adding “The concerned authorities should take notice of the dilapidated condition of IJ Principal Road as billions of rupees have been spent to upgrade this highly busy artery of the city.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz inaugurated the IJ Principal Road to facilitate the motorists plying between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. But the monsoon rains caused damage to most of its parts and motorists face difficulties while moving on this road during the rainfall. Zaheer Abbasi, another resident, said the IJ Principal Road has started becoming bumpy and showing uneven surface and patches, causing problems for thousands of vehicles including heavy traffic that ply on the road daily. He said the motorists should not face an unpleasant drive on newly constructed road and the taxes they pay should be used on uplift projects, including the maintenance of major roads.
