New traffic plan introduced in Abbottabad
ABBOTTABAD: The police have introduced a new traffic plan to control the increasing number of commercial vehicles in the city.
District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ashfaq Anwar told the media persons that the plan was based on even and odd registration numbers. “A commercial vehicle would have either an odd or even registration number on its windscreen. On a given day, either vehicles having even or odd numbers would ply the city roads,” he added.
Earlier, a ceremony was held at Jalal Baba Auditorium where the DPO formally launched the new traffic plan by allotting registration numbers to owners and drivers of commercial vehicles present on the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by people from different walks of life, including Superintendent of Police Headquarters Shamsur Rehman, traders and transporters.
Addressing the gathering, the DPO said that there had been an alarming increase in the numbers of commercial vehicles in Abbottabad city where no alternative road or bypass could be developed for quite a long time. He said that records of all the commercial vehicles had been computerised and traffic wardens would be able to check it on their cellular phones.
Private and students’ vehicles would be allowed to ply the city roads every day because those have been exempted from the plan.
