ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Saturday called on the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif chairing a meeting of the PML-N parliamentary party, being in negation of the law and the SC judgement.

Reacting to Nawaz’s presiding over the party meeting, Babar Awan said that after having been disqualified by the five-member bench of the SC, he could not chair a political party’s meeting. About nomination of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as interim prime minister, he said this nomination was a slap in the face of the slot of prime minister. He also called for action against the state-run Pakistan Television’s head for telecasting insulting speech of a disqualified person.

Meanwhile, talking to journalists PTI Information Secretary Shafqat Mehmood said the apex court had been lenient to Nawaz while it ordered filing references against him, as for presenting fake documents to the SC, FIR could have been registered against him. He added the apex court could have order registration of FIR against Nawaz.

He wondered Shahbaz Sharif as prime minister would also be asked questions about Hudaibiya Paper Mills. He added they thought, masses would come out in massive numbers in their support but this did not happen. Shafqat feared they would now try to do so in an organised manner and none would be able to stop them, if they resorted to damaging the government properties.
