Citizens robbedof valuables
LAHORE: Robbers deprived citizens of their valuables and vehicles worth millions of rupees here on Sunday.
Robbers looted valuables worth Rs 0.7 million from the house of one Mukhtar Ali in the Gulshan Iqbal area, valuables worth Rs 260,000 from the family of one Ahmad Ali in Haier, valuables worth Rs 1 lakh from the family of one Mahmood in Sattukatla, Rs 50,000 from one Junaid in Nishtar Colony, Rs 25,000 from one Sadiq in Faisal Town and Rs 25,000 from one Farooq in the Subzazar area. Thieves stole valuables worth Rs 534,000 from the house of one Rafique in the Gulshan Ravi area, Rs 32,000 from the office of one Waheed in Ravi Road, Rs 94,000 in cash, 1,000 US dollars, 2,000 riyals and gold ornaments weighing 6 tola from the house of one Anam in Nishtar Colony, valuables worth Rs 4 lakhs from the house of one Arshad in Nishtar Colony and five cows from the outhouse of one Pervez in the Subzazar area. Two cars were stolen from the areas of Mughalpura and Gulshan Ravi and three bikes were lifted from the areas of Gujjarpura, Qila Gujjar Singh and Samanabad.
electrocuted: A security guard was electrocuted while taking a shower at his home at Rang Mahal on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Ghameen Khan, hailed from Kohat and served as a security guard in a shoe market near Fawara Chowk. Police said that he was taking bath when he accidentally came in contact with an electricity wire, resulting into his death.
gutted: Goods worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a shoe factory in the Shafiqabad area on Sunday.
The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters extinguished it after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.
Cops honoured: The SSP Investigation gave away commendatory certificates to seven officers for investigating a case of murder attempt on a law student, Khadeja Siddiqui, on merit.
Police investigation led the accused, Shah Hussain, to be convicted of assaulting his class fellow Khadeja Sidiqui.
Those who received the certificates are: Civil Lines investigation, operation and legal SPs and a DSP, Racecourse police station in charge SI Ejaz, Civil Lines SI Javed and Crime Scene Unit SI Yousaf.
Security: Security in the provincial metropolis was put on high alert to thwart any untoward incident.
Following the directions of the CCPO, additional SPs reviewed the security arrangements and visited churches and sensitive buildings in their areas. The CCPO appealed to the citizens to extend their full co-operation to police and immediately inform police at Rescue 15 or 8330 about any suspicious activity around them.
road accidents: Total 666 road crashes were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 from all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Seventeen lives were lost and 620 people were badly injured in the road accidents.
The injured were removed to hospitals. However, some 204 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by the emergency medical teams.
Arrested: Ghaziabad police arrested a man on charges of selling kites on Sunday. Police seized 500 kites and 20 kite string spools from the possession of the arrested accused, Muhammad Ans.
Booked: Lahore police registered eight cases and arrested 18 persons on charges of wheelie and kite flying.
Police also seized 28 kites and kite string spools.
