Call to approve policy for transgender protection
PESHAWAR: The representatives of political parties and members of civil society on Friday asked the government to approve policy on transgender protection. The demand was made at a conference, which was organised jointly by Blue Veins, TransAction and Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network at the Peshawar Press Club.
A group of political activists, members of the provincial assembly and political party representatives called upon the provincial government to consider the human rights of transgender and intersex people as the provincial protection policy awaited approval of the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In July 2017, the draft of the transgender protection policy was submitted to the government through Directorate of Social Welfare and the government is in consultation with several line departments and has asked for their comments in relation to the adoption and implementation of provincial policy on the rights of transgender and intersex persons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
