Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) would set up cattle market in Sector I-12 on the area measuring 4,000 kanal and the contract in this respect would be awarded through open bidding process till August 15.

A committee would be established to monitor provision of basic facilities in the cattle market including clean drinking water, deployment of security staff, camps for veterinary doctors, designated areas for loading and unloading of animals, public toilets, site electrification, car parking for buyers and directional sign boards.

The contract of the cattle market was awarded last year against an amount worth Rs23.5 million. There is a chance that like the previous year the vendors who used to bring sacrificial animals to the federal capital may establish their own illegal cattle market in Sector I-11.

MCI Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz has directed the chairmen of the union councils not to permit any contractor to set up cattle market in their areas because only designated and legal cattle market would be set up in Sector I-12.

The provision of basic facilities in the cattle market in Sector I-12 would be responsibility of the contractor and the committee would constantly monitor the situation and take action if he would fail to meet the requirements given in the contract.
