Islamabad: Educationalists urges the government and education departments to launch different programmes to encourage book reading, as First revelation from Allah Almighty asked prophet (SAW) ‘Iqra’ or to ‘Read.’

While talking to ‘The News’ Muhammad Usman a university professor has said that books plays an important role in our lives. He said, “When you open a book, you open a new world.” Books have become inevitable to mankind. A book is like a best friend who will never walk away from you, he added.

Muhammad Usman further said that our beloved Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) asked Muslims to ‘Seek knowledge even if you have to go to China.’ In another saying he asked Muslims to seek knowledge from cradle to the Grave.

Fahad Ali, another university professor said that Muslims sought their brightest era of power not through the power of sword but through superior knowledge. In today’s era Muslims are lacking behind in every field only due to the lack of knowledge.

He said US led western world is far ahead of Muslim world as far as the knowledge is concerned. In order to seek their lost glory, Muslims have to revert back to the tradition of acquiring knowledge and inculcate the habit to read.

He also appreciated the initiative of UAE government of Arab Reading Challenge and said Pakistan needs to imitate the project on federal and provincial level.   “Education departments including Higher Education Commission should initiate book reading programme to attract and tell the importance of book to young generation,” he added.
