Special buses given for students with disabilities
Islamabad: The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has handed over two buses to Islamabad’s special education institutes after modification for students with disabilities. The move comes under the Prime Minister’s Education Reform Programme watched over by the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, through few MNAs and Federal Directorate of Education officials. Earlier, five buses were handed over to the city’s special education institutes. Two of them were modified for students with disabilities on the orders of the prime minister. With seating capacity of 55, the modified buses have an extra door for wheelchair users, and special ramps. Minister of State for CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said many special children didn’t get formal education due to the inability to use public transport vehicles.
He said the modified buses would help such children travel between schools and home without trouble. The minister said last December; the prime minister had approved the purchase of 130 buses and 30 coasters for the educational institutes of the federal capital at his request. He said the purchase of those buses was under way and would be made soon and thus, helping further the cause of education in Islamabad.
