A labourer working at a construction site in the city’s Clifton area fell to his death on Sunday. Police officials identified the victim as 28-year-old Wahid Bux son of Ghazi Khan and said he fell to his death at the construction site of ‘Icon Tower’ located near the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Clifton.
The worker, it was said, died on the spot before medical aid could be provided. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and the area police had launched an investigation.
With labour safety laws hardly enforced, such deaths remain a common occurrence even in an urban hub such as Karachi. In June this year, a worker had fallen to his death from the fourth floor of a factory located in the city’s Korangi area.
Officials had identified the deceased as 45-year-old Rana Liaquat and said he was working on the factory’s fourth floor when he fell off. Liaquat had suffered severe head trauma and died on the spot before medical help could arrive. — PPI
