The feasibility survey for the construction of the Chiniot dam has been completed. This project was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and its funding will be provided by Wapda and the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Although the project is essential to reduce the risk of floods, farmers have their reservations. They fear that they would lose a significant portion of their land because of this project.
The concerned authorities should have a meeting with the Chiniot Farmer Board to find out a way to make the project beneficial for both the parties. Once assurance is given, the work on the project should be commenced without any further delay.
