KARACHI: KMC authorities have failed to complete the projects at its Kashmir Road sports complex. The projects, some of them nearing completion, were stopped due to the death of a contractor. The work has not resumed since then because of lethargic attitude of officials concerned.

These projects had already been delayed due to financial crisis in the KMC, sources said. The construction work at the projects had been 90 percent completed. The remaining work was to be finished earlier this year. No official is willing to say when these projects will be completed.

KMC has developed a bowling alley, new squash courts, a futsal arena, badminton courts, a volleyball court, three cricket practice pitches and a football ground.Futsal and bowling have gained a lot of popularity among the youngsters of the city in recent years.

Besides, a pavilion has been built which can accommodate more than 2000 spectators. The pavilion is in front of the football and athletics facilities.

A tartan track was included in the initial plans but was later dropped for lack of financial resources. It was decided that it would be included in the next year’s budget.

There is only one tartan track in entire Sindh, which is at PSB-owned coaching centre in Karachi, but it completed its life many years ago. The PSB has not bothered to replace it.

A high official of KMC told ‘The News’ that they have invited the heirs of contractor on Monday to complete the work as soon as possible.

The swimming pool and the diving pool have already been completed and have been operational for more than one and a half years.
