MULTAN: The Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen and the Shia Ulema Council separately observed black day and took out protest rallies against the attack on an imambargah in Shikarpur, which claimed 61 lives.
The MWM rally was led by Allama Iqtidar Hussain Naqvi and Allama Nadir Abbas Alvi, which began from Shawala Bridge and concluded at Chowk Nawan Shehr where over 300 protesters observed a sit-in and blocked traffic. The SUC took out another rally from Shia Miani. The participants were beating their chests and shouting slogans against the government for its failure to protect the lives and property of the people.
The speakers expressed their sympathies with the families of the victims. “Terrorists feel free to attack the Shia community whenever they want because the federal and provincial governments are taking no action against them,” said the MWM leaders.
They criticised the government and law-enforcement agencies for their inattention to the massacre of Shia Muslims. They lamented that a large number of deaths could have been avoided if the blast victims were provided treatment on time. The Shia Ulema Council also staged a demonstration at Suraj Miani against the Shikarpur tragedy and condemned the brutal attack on the imambargah. The SUC activists led by Haji Tahir Abbas and Mehr Muzain Abbas Chohan staged a sit-in at Alamdar chowk and chanted slogans against the government. They demanded stern action against terrorist groups and their facilitators. He said the blast had proved the failure of the Sindh government.
