Punjab trust hospitals ordered to prepare KPIs

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Kh Salman Rafique has directed the department to prepare Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for trust hospitals who are getting grant in aid funds under which a mechanism of technical and financial audit be evolved so that poor patients could benefit from the public money.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting of the committee constituted by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to grant Rs100 million to Ghurki Trust Hospital at Civil Secretariat on Monday, according to a handout issued here.

Additional Secretary Health (Development) Irfan Ali Kathia, Prof Faisal Masood, Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr Salman Shahid, Health Specialist Dr Naeemud Din Mian, Dr Amjad Shehzad, Deputy Secretary Primary & Secondary Health Dr Fauzia, Usman Tahir from IDAP, Additional Secretary (Welfare) Danish Afzal, Chief Executive Punjab Health Initiative Management Company Dr Sara Siddique, Deputy Secretary Finance Dr Salma Suleman and other officers concerned attended the meeting.

Prof Faisal Masood said that the government should award a permanent framework for the trust hospitals, which are getting funds as grant in aid for the transparent use of the funds and there should be a uniform policy for every hospital. Kh Salman Rafique stated that one time grant of Rs100 million has been approved by the chief minister for Ghurki Hospital.

The minister said the government provides grant in aid to these hospitals for the treatment of poor patients and it would be ensured that these funds are being spent on the same purpose. He directed that a policy would be prepared with the consultation of the experts and the services of any reputed audit firm may also be hired.
