LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association and Lahore High Court Bar Association have decided to formally launch their movement for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the wake of Panama Papers case with a maiden meeting of national action committee convened for next week.
Speaking at a joint press conference Friday, the leaders of the Bars said the prime minister lost every moral justification to stick to his office after the verdict issued by the Supreme Court in the Panama case. They said ‘confessional’ statement of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was enough to hold the Sharif family guilty of money laundering. They said the ministers had been trying to scandalise the judiciary and also launched a propaganda campaign against the members of the JIT holding inquiry to the money laundering allegations against Sharif family.
SCBA Secretary Aftab Bajwa said if Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and other ministers did not stop their propaganda campaign then the Bar would ban their entry to the Supreme Court.
He said the lawyers would protect the judiciary against every such vilification campaign and deal the perpetrators with an iron hand. The leaders also criticised the government over its failure in protecting the lives of innocent people who died in Ahmadpur East incident. LHCBA President Ch Zulfiqar Ali also condemned the alleged torture meted out to MNA Jamshed Dasti in jail. He said the Bar would help Dasti in getting justice.
