A shopkeeper was injured by a gunshot when he refused to entertain a customer’s request to replace a pair of shoes he had bought earlier from the shop in Karimabad.

Stylish Shoes, where the incident occurred on Saturday night, is situated in the popular Meena Bazaar locality, SHO Jamal Laghari told The News. The police officer said 35-year-old Muhammad Tariq suffered bullet wounds when he refused to exchange a pair of shoes in accordance with the policy of his shop.

Laghari said a man named Amir Yousuf had purchased a pair of shoes from the shop, but then he wished to replace them with another pair. “The man arrived at the shop to exchange his pair of shoes before iftar, but he got into a heated argument with the shopkeeper,” said the SHO.

“Later that night the man arrived at the shop again with three of his friends and subjected the shopkeeper to a brutal beating.” Laghari said Yousuf shot at Tariq, but the victim was immediately taken to a hospital and his condition was said to be out of danger after getting prompt medical attention.

The police also arrived on the scene in the nick of time and arrested the attacker, but his friends managed to disappear into the crowd at the market, he added. The SHO said the police had registered a case against the attacker and his three friends on the complaint of the injured shopkeeper.

Tariq’s relatives told The News that the attacker was affiliated with a political party and that the police might be pressurised into letting Yousuf go because of his influence. Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Home Minister Suhail Siyal called the SSP of District Central to direct him to complete the investigation and submit its report to him without delay.
