Year’s longest day passes on unnoticed

ISLAMABAD: Only a handful of the people knew on Wednesday that they had the longest fast of Ramazan in the day.The day was also the longest day of the year with the meteorologists insisting the daytime lasted around 17 hours.

Summer Solstice as it is technically called, the day takes place between June 20 and June 22 in the Northern Hemisphere. When asked, most of the people out on the streets didn’t know about the day and some even showed no interest in it. Jamal Shah, a government employee, said he knew June 21 was the longest day of the year but forgot about it perhaps due to the fasting.

A shopper, Nusrat Bibi, said it didn’t matter for her if the day was the longest of the year.“What matter for me is the weather? If it is hot, the day you go shopping in the daytime especially during Ramazan is the longest and most irritating and if it is pleasant, even spending hours outdoors doesn’t bother,” she said before going away smiling.
