NAWABSHAH: Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) Superintendent Engineer Malik Imtiazul Haque disclosed that power thieves have devised new techniques to steal electricity, adding that people involved in power theft would be brought in the court of law and would not be spared at any cost.
He said this while talking to media here after more than two hundred tampered meters were seized by his team, including Sub-Divisional Officer Rizwan Ali and Line Superintendent AD Chandio.
He said that the team received secret information regarding an organised gang of Hyderabad involved in meter tampering in Nawabshah. They were using shunts to slow down the meter by 80 percent, he added.
He said that the special team also found a local trade union leader involved in meter tampering. His meter was also seized, the official added. The Hesco official said that under the power theft law, the accused would face Rs50,000 fine and two-year imprisonment. He said that the Hesco officials would also face action if found guilty.
