Hashoo Foundation helps raise funds for welfare of orphans
Rawalpindi
The Hashoo Foundation helped a small local NGO Al Islah Centre to raise more than Rs. 8 million for the benefit of orphans at a charity iftar sponsored by the Foundation’s chairman Murtaza Hashwani here at Pearl Continental.
The event, which coincided with Islamic World Orphans Day, was organized in support of the orphans of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. It attracted a number of dignitaries, some of who contributed their quota to the cause. Shah Khawar, Trustee of Hashoo Foundation was the chief guest, while other notable guests included Zamurrud Khan, patron-in-chief of Pakistan Sweet Homes, and Jalal-ud-Din, Director of Strategic Support Unit at Hashoo Foundation. The stars of the event were the 20 orphan children who are residents of Al Islah Centre. Other attendees including government officials and representatives from the business community also contributed generously for the cause.
The event aimed at raising funds for the organization’s various projects, which include provision of shelter and care for orphans and vulnerable children and their ‘Sponsor-a-Child Programme’ which encourages individuals and corporations to sponsor disadvantaged children. The event also aimed at soliciting support and contributions for sustainability of the good work being done by both the organisations.
The Hashoo Foundation, under its Social Welfare Programme, has been implementing programmes to provide financial and educational assistance in support of orphans and disadvantaged children. The Foundation’s conservative estimates suggest that Pakistan hosts over 4 million orphans who are in dire need of proper shelter, healthcare and education facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary of Al Islah Centre Shah Waliullah appreciated Hashoo Foundation for its long years of sustainable work for underprivileged children including orphans.
In his address, Shah Khawar commended both Hashoo Foundation and Al Islah Centre for putting together an event that will help promote the cause of orphans and their urgent needs especially in postconflict KP. He also invited other civil society organizations to join hands with programmes that generate hope for the less privileged. He reminded the audience of the core values of Islam of helping those less fortunate than ourselves, and of availing the blessings of the holy month of Ramazan.
