Rehman Malik to appear before JIT on June 23
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed Senator Rehman Malik to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) with all the proofs.
According to sources, the PPP chairman issued this direction while speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by PPPP Vice President Sherry Rehman in his honour on Wednesday. The former interior minister, Senator Rehman Malik, will appear before the Panama Case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on June 23, sources said.
The JIT had initially summoned Rehman Malik to appear on June 13, but he was in London, so he requested for another date for appearance. He has now been summoned to appear before the JIT on June 23, Friday.
“Senator Rehman Malik has received summons from the JIT for appearance before it on June 23 and he will return to Pakistan from London during the current week,” confirmed a spokesman of Senator Rehman Malik.
Malik served the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) holding various posts, and later became the agency’s director general. Malik is likely to inform the JIT about the investigation carried out by his team during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure as the prime minister into various scams, including money laundering through the Hudaibiya Paper Mills and purchase of London Mayfair flats by the Sharif family. He was investigating Nawaz Sharif for corruption during the second government of Benazir Bhutto in the mid-1990s.
