Huge quantity of shoddy ketchup seized
LAHORE
Continuing its crackdown on adulterated and unhygienic food items, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized a huge quantity of substandard ketchup here Wednesday.
Officials said a special team on a secret tip raided at Ajwa Foods, which was operating secretly in a residential area and confiscated 10,000 kilogram ketchup, which was being manufactured through different chemicals instead of tomato pulp. They said cleanliness conditions of the production area were pathetic and wrong labels were also being used.
They added that harmful chemicals were being used in manufacturing of this ketchup and it was stored in dirty blue drums. Other than this major seizure, PFA teams also sealed and fined several hotels, juice corners and milk shops for violating food rules in various city areas. Special teams also checked quality of vegetables and fruits in different Ramazan bazaars.
