Rain brings relief to heat-stricken Lahorites

LAHORE

Early morning rain on Wednesday brought down the mercury almost 10°C bringing a sigh of relief to the heat-stricken Lahorites while Met office predicted more rain till coming Friday.

The rain accompanied with thunderstorm started early morning and continued for two hours freshening up the city and its citizens. Scattered rainwater was found on several city main roads causing problem for commuters and road travellers.

Met officials said a westerly wave is still affecting upper and central parts of the country and likely to persist during next two-three days. They predicted that hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during day time while dust-thunderstorm/rain with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Multan, Sahiwal, DG Khan, DI Khan, Bahawalpur, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions and Kashmir. They said Quetta, Zhob, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Rawalpindi divisions, Fata, Islamabad & Gilgit-Baltistan during (evening/night) may witness scattered rain.

Rainfall was recorded in various cities, including Sahiwal (29mm), Kasur (25mm), T.T Singh (20mm), Okara (19mm), Bhakkar (15mm), Faisalabad (12mm), Murree (11mm), Mangla (10mm), Lahore (University of Punjab 12mm, PBO 10mm, AP 09mm), Chakwal (09mm), Sargodha (City 07mm, PAF 01mm), Noorpur Thal and Jhelum (05mm), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 04mm, Shamsabad 01mm), Shorkot (04mm), Jhang (02mm), Islamabad (ZP, Saidpur, Bokra 01mm), Kamra (01mm), Rawalakot (11mm), Kotli (08mm), Garhi Dupatta (04mm), Muzaffarabad (01mm), Malam Jabba (10mm), Dir (07mm), Pattan (04mm), Kalam (03mm), DI Khan and Kakul (02mm), Peshawar City, Cherat and Lower Dir (01mm), Bagrote (08mm), Gupis and Astore (03mm), Skardu (02mm), Bunji and Chillas (01mm) and Karachi (01mm).

Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Sibbi where it was 49°C while in Lahore, it was 32°C, minimum 22.2°C and humidity level was 47 percent.
