On Thursday (May 25), the prime minister along with the chief minister of Punjab inaugurated the Sahiwal Coal Power Project. It is expected that the project will generate 1,320MW of electricity. Although the government has started various power projects, it has not been able to curb loadshedding. Temperature in Lahore has now gone above 44 degrees Celsius and since the beginning of Ramazan, the situation has become more difficult to deal with. The weather is getting hotter day by day. It is not just Lahore but the recent wave of loadshedding has hit the entire province. On one hand, the nation witnesses the inaugurations of power projects every month. On the other hand, the problem of unannounced loadshedding remains unresolved.
According to the Met department, heat intensity will increase in the next two to three days. Ramazan has started and the government needs to devise a proper plan so that people do not face any kind of difficulty during the holy month. Loadshedding should be reduced to facilitate people. Also the loadshedding schedule should be designed in a way that there is no power outage during Sehri and Iftar. It is hoped that all power projects that have been completed so far and those which are in pipeline will help counter this problem. Let’s hope for a day when people in Pakistan will not only get uninterrupted electricity supply, but the electricity rates will also be reduced.
