IGP for strict enforcement of Ramazan traffic plan
Sindh Inspector General of Police A D Khowaja on Sunday directed the city’s traffic police chief to implement special measures for traffic management during the holy month of Ramazan.
In the directives, the IGP has called for efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly during business hours and the time close to Iftar.
Alternate routes should be chalked out to facilitate citizens at a time when several development projects are underway, said the IGP, adding that these routes must also be properly advertised.
In his orders, the IGP said all SHOs and section officers who have been assigned the responsibility of managing Karachi’s traffic must work in earnest to ensure strict implementation of the envisaged traffic plan.
Khowaja also urged all officials concerned to ensure coordinated picketing, patrolling and snap checking across Karachi.
The IGP said minimum three-hour snap checking must be ensured throughout the metropolis, while also calling for special security for taraweeh prayers at open spaces, mosques, imambargahs and other designated sites.
Earlier in the week, Khowaja had directed Additional Inspector General (Traffic) Khadim Hussain Bhatti to submit a detailed plan for traffic management in Karachi during the holy month of Ramazan.
In directives issued last week, the IGP called for foolproof security arrangements at the district, zone and range levels for each and every mosque, imambargah, madrasa and sites designated for ‘taraweeh’ prayers.
The security plans should be formulated with due attention on area-wise crime analysis. Reiterating the need for exemplary arrangements for public security across the province, he said due diligence must be done for highly sensitive and sensitive areas, particularly in the context of Yaum-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali and other sacred nights.
IGP Khowaja said technical sweeping, clearance, advance intelligence collection and sharing, random snap checking, picketing and patrolling must be ensured.
He stated that top priority must given to increased security at all public places, government offices, consulates and other sensitive installations, adding that significant deployment of personnel must be ensured at these spots.
