A man gunned down his male cousin in the Sindhi Goth locality of Gulshan-e-Hadeed on Tuesday over the accusation of having illicit relations with the former’s sister.

Bin Qasim SHO Dhani Bux said a police team was dispatched after the 15 helpline informed them of a firing incident in the Pipri area of Sindhi Goth.

The police officer said that when the law enforcers arrived on the scene, they found 27-year-old Saddam Mugheri dead in a pool of blood, adding that the body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to the heirs for burial.

SHO Bux said the locals told the police that Mugheri’s cousin had opened fire on him and then escaped from the spot, adding that the law enforcers had raided the house of the suspect and arrested him.

The officer said the suspect claimed in his initial statement to the police that he had murdered his cousin because he had illicit relations with his sister. “He said he had told his cousin to stay away from his sister, but he refused.”

Bux said the case of the incident would be registered following the complainant’s return to the city after the burial.

Three more “honour killing” cases have been reported this month. On May 19, a 55-year-old woman was gunned down by her husband in Faqeera Goth for “being in an objectionable relationship”.

SITE Super Highway SHO Anaar Khan said Muhammad Khan shot his wife Bakht Nama to death for having an “illicit relationship”. The couple had four sons and three daughters.

On May 18, a 35-year-old woman was shot dead by her father over having “an illicit relationship with an unidentified man”. The incident occurred inside their home situated near the Lalabad police post in Quaidabad.

Identified as Neelum, the woman was shot dead by her 60-year-old father Jahanzaib following a heated argument.

On May 7, a woman was strangled to death by her father and brother in Keamari Town’s Bhatta village for “wishing to marry one of her brother-in-laws”.

Twenty-two-year-old Farzana’s body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where her post-mortem examination confirmed that she was strangulated.

‘MQM-H’ man shot dead

A man believed to be affiliated with the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) was gunned down by hitherto unidentified men in Korangi 2½.

The head clerk of the Zaman Town police station, Nasir Iqbal, said armed motorcyclists had opened fire on Shakeel near the Grace Marriage Lawn and escaped from the scene of the crime.

The victim died on the spot. Later, the police took the body to the Jinnah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Iqbal said the victim had suffered two bullets to the head and one to the abdomen, adding that there were reports that the deceased was a worker of the MQM-H, but his affiliation to the party was yet to be confirmed.
