AIOU sets up data-resource centre to assist research scholars

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon set up a date-resource centre to assist the Ph.D and M.Phil students to conduct qualitative and meaningful research on the issues, relating to community’s welfare.
This was announced by the AIOU’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while inaugurating a week-long workshop on Data-Analysis that was organised by the Faculty of Education in collaboration with USAID. It was being attended by the students and faculty members of higher education from various parts of the country.
He assured that the Data Resource Centre will provide them latest information for holding in-depth research in their relevant field. This is the part of the University’s consistent efforts to promote research culture in the country that relevant to the society.
The University, he added was fulfilling its responsibility of producing scholars who could help bringing positive change in life of an individual and the society as a whole. He underlined the need of developing new techniques and tool of research that make their efforts more meaningful. There should be both qualitative and quantitative improvement in the research methodology at higher education level, he added.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui was of the view that mere economic development would not be enough for bringing real change in the life of the people. Socio change, in term of values, attitude and thinking is imperative for ensuring a better future, he added.
The teaching community, he asserted needed to play their role in transformation of society, by passing on good human values and practices to the new generation. He hoped the researchers will more work devotedly for refining data’s analysis process.
As per the plan after the week-long workshop, the students will also get the opportunity of learning the data-collecting techniques at the level of their respective faculty for a month, said Dr. Afshan Huma while introducing the objectives of the event.
The inaugural session was also attended by the Dean Faculty of Education Dr. Nasir Mahmood and other senior academicians of the University. Those who acted as resource persons for conducting the workshop included Dr. Sajid Ali Yousufzai from University of Wah and Dr. Nadeem Dogar from University of Lahore.
