CSS results

By our correspondents
May 22, 2017

The recent CSS results serve as a wakeup call for the entire nation. Out of 9,643 candidates only 2.06 percent candidates could pass the exam. The dismal performance of the candidates in the exams calls for an immediate reform in our education system. At the moment there is a cut throat competition among the students to get maximum marks in the exams. In this rat race, the students develop the habit of rote learning and cramming only. Instead of polishing their critical thinking, the student just learn the content by heart with a sole aim to secure highest possible marks. The role of teachers and the incumbent institute cannot be overlooked in this regard. The students who top the board, fail to cope with the everyday realities of life because they are not taught the necessary skills to handle obstacles wisely. There is no denying the fact that the CSS exam is meant to check the analytical thinking of aspirants whereas students only rely on the bookish knowledge which does not serve the purpose.

There is a dire need to do away with the outdated syllabus which is currently implemented in our academic institutes. It is suggested that it should be replaced with vibrant and updated version which polish creative thinking of students. The hue and cry which ensued after the declaration of final result of the CSS exam 2016 is well-placed and justified. Along with the revision of syllabus, it is worth mentioning that a rigorous teachers’ training program should be initiated because only a well-trained and skilled teacher can inspire his students.
