Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khowaja has directed Additional Inspector General (Traffic) Khadim Hussain Bhatti to submit a detailed plan for traffic management in Karachi during the holy month of Ramazan.

In directives issued on Sunday, the IGP called for foolproof security arrangements at the district, zone and range levels for each and every mosque, imambargah, madrasa and sites designated for ‘taraweeh’ prayers.

The security plans should be formulated with due attention on area-wise crime analysis. Reiterating the need for exemplary arrangements for public security across the province, he said due diligence must be done for highly sensitive and sensitive areas, particularly in the context of Yaum-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali and other sacred nights.

IGP Khowaja said technical sweeping, clearance, advance intelligence collection and sharing, random snap checking, picketing and patrolling must be ensured.

He stated that top priority must given to increased security at all public places, government offices, consulates and other sensitive installations, adding that significant deployment of personnel must be ensured at these spots.

Recruitment test protest

Taking notice of a protest by a former Sindh Reserve Police official who was not allowed to sit the written recruitment test, IGP Khowaja directed the officials concerned to make arrangements for a retest for the affected cop.

The ex-SRP official, Ghulam Haider, had staged a unique protest on Sunday by climbing atop a tree outside the test venue in Saddar, threatening to jump off if he was not allowed to sit the test.

Haider was protesting against not being allowed to take the written recruitment test. The reason given to him, he said, was his failure to appear for the physical test.

However, the affected cop said he had undergone a medical operation and, as per police recruitment laws, was entitled to exemption from the physical test.
