‘Corrupt elements in education sector must be rooted out’
President Mamnoon Hussain calls for exemplary action against all involved
Any and all elements promoting corruption in Pakistan’s education system need to be dealt with exemplary firmness, and rooting out such nefarious features is a responsibility shared by every member of our society.
A strong education system is essential to lay a solid foundation for real national development.
This is an undeniable fact and, therefore, it is imperative that strict discipline and commitment be maintained in matters of education.
These views were expressed by President Mamnoon Hussain on Sunday in a meeting with a delegation of Karachi residents comprising jurists, educationists, intellectuals and civil society representatives.
Over the course of the discussion, the president emphasised the need for increased self-reliance for positive development. “To ensure that people attain their due rights, there must be efforts to propagate self-reliance instead of dependence on others,” he said.
“Similarly, it is important to ensure there are no lapses in meeting obligations to the state and society.”
The president termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and One Belt One Road projects “special blessings of Almighty Allah for Pakistan”. He said the Pakistani youth must be facilitated in attaining the necessary expertise and skills to harness the full potential of these opportunities.
“To that end, the importance of educational institutions cannot be overstated,” said President Hussain. He told the delegation members of his keen personal interest in uplift of the education sector, stating that an ‘open door’ policy was being followed at the President House with regards to education matters.
The president also spoke on the importance of the judiciary, terming it invaluable for establishment of social discipline and order.
Farewell call
Banking Mohtasib (Ombudsman) Anisul Hasnain paid a farewell visit to President Mamnoon Hussain and apprised him about the performance of his institution.
The president commended the official on discharging his responsibilities with honesty and hard work, read a press release.
Praising the performance of the institution, the president said it was important to expeditiously resolve issues faced by traders and industrialists, as a harmonious business environment would further built investors’ confidence and that of the people in the state.
This would add impetus to industrial and trade activities and, consequently, strengthen the national economy, said President Hussain.
