Four jailed in illegal organ transplant case

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate Monday sent to jail four accused in illegal organ transplant case on 14-day judicial remand. Meanwhile, the same court has granted two days physical custody of one Dr Zafar Javed to the FIA.On Monday, the FIA produced accused persons, including Dr Zafar Javed,
Dr Fawad Mumtaz Khan, Dr Muhammad Altamash, Shahzad and Umar Draz.The court on completion of physical remand of four accused sent them to jail on judicial remand while gave physical remand of Dr Zafar Javed who was arrested on Friday.

As per initial investigation, Dr Zafar Javed revealed that he did not possess the degree of FCPS in Anaesthesia but still studying. He is simply MBBS degree holder. He admitted initially to have illegally transplanted the kidneys of many patients in Lahore, Gujrat and Mirpur Azad Kashmir.

Heinous racket comprising of Fawad Mumtaz Khan plastic surgeon, Muhammad Altamash not yet completed FCPS, Zafar Javed not yet completed FCPS, Shahzad and Umar Draz both OTA were involved in illegal trade of organ transplant.

Dr Zafar Javed disclosed that he had given anaesthesia to around more than 100 donors and recipients/donors, transplanted Fawad Mumtaz Khan.

Previously, the court had remanded one Abdul Majeed who was the agent of Dr Fawad Mumtaz and used to hunt foreign clients for organ transplantation for the accused group involved in illegal kidney transplant. The accused disclosed that a foreigner client Rashid died due to operation for kidney transplant carried out by Dr Mumtaz.
