Court again issues NBWs for MQM leaders
A local court once again issued non-bailable arrest warrants for several leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, including party chief Dr Farooq Sattar, on failing to attend the legal proceedings on the MQM’s protest staged outside the chief minister house on June 5 last year.
The court of the judicial magistrate (South) issued on Monday non-bailable arrest warrants for MQM-P leaders Dr Farooq Sattar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Khushbakht Shujaat, Aslam Afridi and others.
The investigation officer (IO) told the court that he needed more time to complete legal formalities after which the accused leaders could be declared proclaimed offenders and, subsequently, their moveable and immovable properties would be confiscated.
The court accepted the investigation officer’s request and granted him further time to complete the procedure.
While Karachi Mayor and Sindh Assembly opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan have been granted exemption from the appearance in the court, Mehfooz Yar Khan and Sathi Ishaq were at attendance.
Shehzad’s treatment
An anti-terrorism court has ordered the prison authorities to provide proper medical facilities to former MQM leader Saleem Shehzad and get his medical tests conducted.
Another court of the additional district and sessions (East) granted bail to Shehzad in a case pertaining to charges of ransacking and creating law and order situation. The bail was granted in the sum of Rs200,000 to Shehzad, who has already obtained bail in two cases of the similar nature.
