Six held with arms in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police arrested six persons during a search and strike operation at various areas in the district and seized arms and narcotics from them on Saturday, official sources said.  They said that the police launched search strike operation at different areas falling in the limits of the Paharpur, Karikhair, Town, Saddar, Cantonment and Prova police stations and arrested Liaqat Ali, Asif Iqbal, Muhammad Ayaz, Muhammad Hilal, Asmatullah and Muhammad Janbar, Misal Khan and Karim Shah.  The law-enforcers also seized five rifles, six pistols, several cartridges and three kilograms of hashish from their possession.  The held persons were shifted to the police stations concerned where further investigation was underway.       

 

Walk on polio awareness held in Mingora

MINGORA: The anti-polio team and the hospital staff in Madyan organised a walk on Saturday to create awareness in the people about fatal polio disease in the area.  Schoolchildren, polio team and the hospital staff including Dr Shah Dawran, Imdad Hussain, Dr Tanvir, anti-polio team area in-charge Wakil Shah, Rahimuddin, Zakia Bibi, Imtiaz, Irfan and others took part in the walk.  Holding banners and placards, participants of the walk, marched through various areas.  Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shah Dawran said that polio was a crippling and incurable disease.  “Religious scholars, parents and elders of the area should play role to administer anti-polio drops to the children,” he added.

 

Jindal’s visit did not figure in

PM-COAS meeting, says Marriyum

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday contradicted a news item appeared in a section of media about mention of Indian businessman Sajjan Jindal's visit to Pakistan during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.  In a statement the minister said: "There was no mention of Sajjan Jindal in meeting between the Prime Minister and the COAS."  The minister said that "Jindal is a friend of the prime minister and met him in his personal capacity".

 

Marriyum warns against misuse of social media

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday urged the social media users to refrain from negative propaganda against constitutional institutions of the state and warned them of severe action under the Cyber Crimes Law.  The minister, in a statement here, said, "Those, who are using social media for slanderous and negative propaganda against the constitutional state institutions, are warned to desist from this undesirable activity.  All the suspicious accounts, which are being used for propaganda against these entities, are under strict surveillance and action will be taken against the users of these accounts under the Cyber Crimes Law.”

 

CHARSADDA

CHARSADDA: A woman was killed while her two sons sustained bullet injuries when gunmen fired at them in Purdil Khan Killay on Saturday, police said.  One Masood told the police that the accused Bashir, Rafiq, Wakil and Naseer broke into their house and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates.  As a result, Masood said his mother was killed on the spot while he and his brother Wajid sustained bullet injuries.
