35,000 children in capital have no educational facilities
Islamabad
Opposition Leader in Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI) Ali Nawaz Awan has claimed that some 35,000 children belonging to lower strata of society have no educational facilities due to shortage of the government schools in the capital city.
"The federal government is making tall claims regarding up-gradation of the public sector schools but the ground situation indicates that thousands of children belonging to poor families lack educational facilities in the city," he said.
Ali Nawaz Awan said they launched protest against shortage of water and the mayor assured them that the situation would improve soon, adding "If the issue of water shortage is not resolved then they will again protest on streets." He said the mayor and his team has no plan to overcome the shortage of water during the summer season due to which the residents are paying thousands of rupees to get water through tankers.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supports the demands of the councillors and the vice chairmen regarding their monthly wages because they are also elected representatives and be given their due right, he said. He said PTI's MNA Asad Umer raised the issue of water shortage in the National Assembly on calling attention notice besides setting up a protest camp in Islamabad to force the authorities concerned for resolution of this issue.
