‘Workers backbone of economy’
LAHORE: Social Security Hospitals, Labour Colonies and educational institutions are proofs of worker-friendly government.Labour Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar expressed these views while addressing a Labour Day ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Monday.
Raja Ashfaq said the Punjab government and Labour Department are working for the welfare of labourers day and night. The children who are working on petrol pumps, hotels and other places are being enrolled in schools. Workers are backbone of the economy of country, he said, adding that 87,000 children of kiln workers were enrolled in schools.
He said, Labour Colonies have been constructed in Multan and Nankana Sahib. The houses will be handed over to the workers soon.The minister announced establishing a hospital for workers in Rahimyar Khan and upgrading a hospital in Multan. He announced that death grants and marriage grants will be provide to the workers till June 30, 2017. He also informed about the policy regarding home-based workers.
