Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has warned that all those ice manufacturing plants would be sealed during the spot checking that would operate in the city without having licence after May 8.
According to the directives issued by PFA, the ice manufacturing plants must use approved filters and the quality of water being used for manufacturing of ice should also meet the standard set for this purpose under Sehatmand Punjab Programme.
The directives also underlined the fact that some chemicals are being used to manufacture ice quickly so it also issued orders that no chemical should be used in ice manufacturing process and any violation in this respect would not be tolerated in any case.
The owners of the ice manufacturing plants have also been directed to ensure proper cleanliness of machinery and all other equipment used in the ice manufacturing process that would not meet the acceptable cleanliness standards would be confiscated by the food inspectors.
It has been directed that the medical tests and vaccination of the labourers must be done and none of them should take bath or wash clothes in the production area of the ice manufacturing plant.
The vehicles used for transportation of ice blocks to other areas must be neat and clean and the people involved in this process should also observe the standard operating procedure set by the health department.
