IG Jails announces cash reward for female constable who thwarted the attempt

A woman booked by the police on charges of theft was arrested again after she tried to escape from the central prison on Sunday. The jail staff was jolted into action after bystanders raised uproar on seeing the woman trying to scale the prison’s boundary wall.

SSP East Faisal Abdullah said a female prisoner, Shaista, was brought to the Central Prison’s female section on committing theft within the Eidgah police station’s jurisdiction.

The SSP added that the woman climbed onto the boundary wall of the central jail and tried to escape but was timely apprehended by the jail police staff.

SSP Abdullah maintained that the police had not yet registered a case against the inmate for attempting escape as the jail authorities had not contacted them in this regard.

The footage aired on news channels showed a woman standing on the top of the prison’s boundary wall trying to leap over barbed wires when bystanders caused uproar.

Following the incident, Sindh Jails Inspector General (IG) Nusrat Mangan suspended two constables for their negligence.

A statement issued from the IG Jails’ office maintained that police constables Mazhar and Abdul Shakoor were suspended for their alleged negligence since they were posted along the portion of the jail from where the woman attempted to escape.

However, a female constable, Sughra, was given a Rs5,000 cash reward by the IG Jails on her timely action that resulted in the escaping inmate’s arrest.
