Suicide in Pakistan
The rate of committing suicide is boosting rapidly in all over the world and it is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years olds globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in 2016, India has the largest number of people who committed suicide – nearly 206,000 people took their lives. India was followed by China and the US with the number of suicide recorded at 186,000 and 45,900 respectively. The staggering number is due to the fact that these three countries have the largest number of people suffering from depression. Pakistan ranked 33rd in the world with almost 3,913 suicides reported in 2015.
If the population of a country suffers from depression and commit suicide, the country cannot tread on the path to progress. It is the responsibility of the government to set up centres where the people suffering from any mental illness including depression etc can be treated.
