Says expenses of PPP public meetings being
met from govt resources

NAWABSHAH: Sindh United Party leader Syed Zain Shah has said that the PPP would certainly lose badly even in Sindh in the upcoming general elections of 2018.

While addressing a press conference here on Monday, Syed Zain Shah said that the chairman and co-chairman of the PPP claimed to win elections in Punjab even with all the corruption and bad governance in Sindh. He said that the expenses on the PPP public meetings were met from the government resources and PPP’s fame could be judged from the overwhelming public meeting of Dadu.

The SUP leader said that Sindh was facing the issue of terrorism and corruption due to which Rangers were brought to control terrorism. “However, the corrupt elements of society were not taken to task who are still busy in fulfilling their nefarious jobs,” Shah added.

Zain Shah said that Asif Ali Zardari showed his intention to contest elections from Nawabshah but took a side when he saw the mood of general public. Shah was of the view that if action against corruption and corrupt elements was initiated, then the PPP leaders and ministers would be seen sitting behind the bars.

He said that the investigation system was substandard due to which the corrupt elements were freed in the absence of evidence. The SUP leader said that the agriculture sector faced unprecedented losses due to the bad policies of rulers; canal water was not available to growers; and crops were damaged due to non-availability of irrigation water.

While lambasting the policies of the agriculture sector, Shah said: “Sugarcane growers are receiving low prices for sugar as many of the sugar mills are owned by rulers. Sugarcane growers are not getting payment of their produce while wheat bags are being provided to brokers instead of small growers due to which they were constrained to sell wheat to brokers at lower rates.”

Zain Shah said that Nawaz Sharif’s government did a good job by providing subsidy on purchase of fertilisers but that was also looted by the Sindh government and the growers never received any benefit. He said that Dr Asim, Anwar Majeed of Omni Group, Sharjeel Memon and others were involved in mega-corruption cases while Asif Ali Zardari was still free due to the National Reconciliation Ordinance, which came into existence through a deal between Pervez Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto. “He [Zardari] is now challenging the federal government and calling people for protests,” Shah added.

Zain Shah said that the Sindh United Party would continue its drive against terrorism and corruption. He demanded that the population and housing census and the upcoming general elections should be transparent, adding that they must be supervised by the Pak Army.

He said that the SUP was running a campaign against corruption and terrorism and striving to help Sindh get rid of these menaces. He said that if operation against terrorism and corruption was launched in Sindh then the PPP ministers and most important leaders would be arrested.

Zain Shah said that out of merit jobs were given in the departments of education, police, revenue and irrigation and incompetent people were being inducted on adhoc basis, thus, bypassing the Sindh Public Service Commission. He said that the PML-N would face losses if it would compromise with the PPP.

The SUP leader demanded that the 2018 general elections must be held under the supervision of the Pak Army to keep the PPP leaders and feudal lords away from the polling stations. He said that even with great difficulties the Sindh United Party would continue its drive against the corruption of the PPP.
