Court informed that army had taken accused into custody

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has fixed May 16 to hear eight cases against former Lyari gangster and chief of the proscribed People’s Amn Committee, Uzair Baloch, and one of his companions, Amin Buledi.

The court was informed that Uzair Baloch and Amin Buledi were involved in cases pertaining to attack on police case and possession of illegal arms and explosive material.

On the other hand, a report was submitted to the court, saying that the custody of Uzair Baloch had been taken by the Pakistan Army under the Official Secret Act, 1923. It said that Baloch was taken into custody on April 11 and it was not possible to produce him before the trial court. The court adjourned the hearing until May 16.

21-year imprisonment

An ATC sentenced Imran alias Kala to 21 years in prison after he was found guilty in a case pertaining to possession of illegal arms and explosives. The man was arrested in 2015 in the area of Pirabad police station. One hand grenade and unlicensed arms were found on him

Double murder case

A Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist, Ubaid alis Ubaid K2, was produced before an ATC in a double murder case. While recording his statement before the court, the investigation officer (IO) said Ubaid K2, Sajid Khan and others were involved in killing former DIG Pir Shabbir Jan Sarhandi and his friend, Fahim Farooqui, in 2015. The IO said an eye witness had identified them.

Ubaid K2 said he was not provided any medical treatment in the jail despite being ill. The court issued a notice to the prison authorities to submit a reply on May 4 regarding provision of treatment to the ailing accused. Ubaid K2 and dozens of other party activists were arrested by the Rangers when a raid was conducted in the MQM’s headquarter Nine Zero and its adjoining areas in 2015.
