‘Key issues faded into background due to Panama Papers issue’
PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao Sunday said that vital national issues had been put on the backburner due to the Panama Papers issue.
He said the decision of the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case should be implemented.Addressing a public meeting in Mathra village here on Sunday, he said that corruption had damaged the very fabric of the society.
“The QWP’s Core Committee has been in favour of a judicial commission instead of the joint investigation team as the former could effectively probe the Panama Papers issue,” he added.Aftab Sherpao vehemently pleaded the cause of democracy, saying that the continuation of sustainable democracy would usher in a new era of prosperity and development.
He said that the elections should be held within time so as durability of the institutions could be ensured.Regarding the Mashal Khan’s lynching issue, the QWP chief said that no such incident had taken place in the Pakhtun society in the past and this incident had damaged local norms and traditions of decency. He said those behind the gory episode were protecting each other. He added the accused should be brought to justice. He expressed dissatisfaction at the pace of the investigation and warned against protecting the accused.
