Two more accused held in Mashal’s lynching case

MARDAN: The Mardan Police have arrested two more accused including a security in-charge of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mashal Khan’s lynching case.

The number of the arrested accused in the incident has now reached 34, police officials said.One of the arrested persons was identified as Mohammad Bilal, who was a computer operator at the university. However, the university administration had deputed him to work as security in-charge at the main gate of the varsity.

Police sources said that Bilal had allegedly provoked the mob to kill Mashal Khan.The sources pointed out that Bilal in his college days was affiliated with the Pakhtun Students Federation, the students’ wing of the Awami National Party. They said that Bilal was appointed at the university on the basis of his political affiliation with ANP during the party’s rule in the province.

The sources said that the second arrested accused was Amir, who allegedly desecrated the body of Mashal Khan after his death.The police have so far arrested 34 accused in Mashal Khan’s lynching case.The sources said that 24 accused were sent to the Central Jail Mardan on judicial remand while the remaining 10 were in police custody for physical remand.
