Three new disciplines at Inter-Provincial Games

KARACHI: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Wednesday decided that the competitions in the second edition of Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games would be held in 16 disciplines.

The Board said that swimming (male), netball (female) and wushu (male) have been added to the 13 disciplines in which competitions were held in the inaugural edition last year.

The competitions would be held from May 5-9 at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

Athletics (M/F), badminton (M/F), boxing (M), football (M/F), hockey (M/F), judo (M/F), karate (M/F), squash (M/F), table tennis (M/F), taekwondo (M/F), tennis (M/F), volleyball (M/F), wrestling (M) contested during the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games 2016 will be played during the second edition. Besides, three new disciplines are wushu (M), netball (F) and swimming (M), the PSB said after a meeting.

“More than 2,800 male and female sportspersons will participate in these competitions. This was decided during the meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Director General PSB, at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad,” it added.

The Board said that input of representatives of all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, FATA and the federal capital was taken during the meeting.

“The trophy will be given on the basis of gold medals while on the request of Sindh Sports Board it was decided that the printed results should be issued to all the Boards,” it said.

“Two shields will be given to each Board, one to Chef-de-Mission and one focal persons of the contingent. Provinces were requested to provide list of the participants (players and team officials) by name as early as possible and colours and design of the track suits of different provinces were displayed and finalised,” the Board said.

It was also agreed that advance payment for conveyance would be made to the treasurers of the contingents, the Board said. All the Deputy Director Generals of PSB were also present.
