Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Crime Wing, in a crackdown on the agent mafia, arrested gangsters from the Excise and Taxation Office who deprived people of thousands of rupees, the FIA said.
FIA Director (Crimes) Inam Ghani, when contacted, confirmed the report saying that on receipt of secret information that some fraudsters were involved in affixing bogus or fake stamps with fake signatures and tokens in the name of officials of the Excise & Taxation Office, Islamabad, and extorting money from public as bribe and causing huge loss to the national exchequer. The FIA Islamabad team conducted a raid outside the Excise & Taxation Office, Islamabad. The raiding team reached the office at 12 noon on January 20, 2015.
Ghani said that the FIA officers in plainclothes approached an agent namely Tanvir Abbas who demanded Rs10,000 for stamping a token on the registration book of a Toyota Probox (RF-615) and for completion of other formalities within an hour. The officers handed over the registration book of the 2006 model car along with Rs10,000. After an hour, Tanvir Abbas returned the registration book (No. 615) with fake-bogus stamps and signature affixed thereon. These fake-bogus stamps were not verified by the Excise and Taxation Office, Islamabad. Accused Tanvir Abbas was taken into custody along with the registration book with fake-bogus stamps. He disclosed that he along with other accomplices namely Waseem Asif Shah, Ahmed Nadeem, Shahzad Masih, Rana Muhammad Ali and others were involved in affixing & preparing fake stamps and signatures on the registration books. The accused confessed that he along with his accomplices had been fleecing public for three years and inflicting huge loss to the national exchequer.
Physical remand of the two arrested accused will be obtained from the court of law.
