‘Public-private partnership expanding’

Public private partnership is expanding in Punjab with mega infrastructure projects. Public and private sectors of Pakistan will have to work together for sustainable economic growth and development.

Punjab Planning and Development Public Private Partnership Cell has been advancing as a focal point for supporting all initiatives in the province. 

In a handout issued here on Monday, the P&D official stated that the Punjab government is investing Rs50 billion in different development projects in the province. The mission of the P&D Cell is to tap private investment and managerial abilities for provision of world class public infrastructure and service delivery.

Working on more than 41 development projects; P&D Cell is exceeding ahead with new and ground-breaking projects. The operationalised projects include flyover at Railway Crossing on Defence Road at estimated cost of Rs2.994 billion and Vehicle Inspection and Certification System at estimated cost of Rs900 million in Punjab. Most widely known Lahore Ring Road (Southern Loop) also falls in the category of awarded projects at an estimated cost of Rs24.246 billion.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of Lahore Ring Road (Southern Loop Project) on 14th of August, 2016. Public Private Partnership Cell is currently working on several projects, including infrastructure, health, education, housing, roads, forestry, tourism, resort development, water treatment plants and urban services; located in different cities of Punjab.

The prominent pipeline projects of the Cell included drivers training programme in Punjab, Rawalpindi Ring Road, diagnostic centres at DHQ and THQ hospitals, surface water treatment plant in Lahore, dual carriageway Dina Mangla Road, parking plazas and shopping mall in Faisalabad, wastewater treatment plant, Faisalabad etc.

He said Punjab P&D Cell with a vision to achieve sustainable economic development in Punjab with private enterprise is heading with magnificent development ventures in the province for public service.
