The paramilitary force announced on Monday the arrests of 14 suspected terrorists, target killers and other criminals, who were caught during raids in various parts of the city.

The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said two terrorists were arrested in Shah Latif Town.

He said the suspects, Qasim and Manzoor Alam, belonged to the banned Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and facilitated terrorism activities and the smuggling of weapons.

Paramilitary soldiers conducted swoops on hideouts in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Shah Latif Town and after facing resistance apprehended three men, identified as Syed Illyas Hussaini, Asghar Ali alias Mama and Syed Shah Faisal alias Raampuri. The suspects were alleged to be associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) and involved in target killings and forcible collection of Fitra.

During action in Orangi Town, SITE and Saeedabad areas, Rangers’ personnel arrested Kamran, Karim Zada and Shakir suspected to be involved in robberies, street crimes and the smuggling of weapons. Weapons and looted goods were said to have been found on the men, who were later handed over to police for further legal proceedings.

A suspected terrorist, Jehanzaib alias Sheena, was taken into custody during action taken in the Super Market area. He was alleged to be associated with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and remained involved in target killings and facilitating terrorists.

During raids and an encounter in Sohrab Goth and North Nazimabad, two MQM-London activists, identified as Kamran Munir alias Madhuri and Mohammad Asif, and Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi worker Waqar alias Kala were apprehended.

The three were said to be involved in target killings, forcible collection of hides of sacrificial animals and extorting traders in Korangi Industrial Area.

Separately, Rangers’ personnel arrested Irfan Khan alias Chitta over involvement in target killings and extorting money from owners of garments factories in Rizvia as well as for land grabbing.

Zar Nawaz was arrested in Ittehad Town. He was allegedly involved in a number of heinous crimes.

Weapons and looted valuables were found on the arrested men, who were later handed over to police for legal action.

Suspect killed

A robber was killed while his accomplice managed to escape in a shootout with police in Hassan Panhwar Goth on Monday.

A team of the Shah Latif Town police was conducting routine snap-checking near Anwar Abbasi Hotel, Jogi Morr, and had flagged two people on a two-wheeler (KFQ-1248) to stop for a check.

The bike riders, however, sped away and a chase ensued. The suspects opened fire at the police and as the cops retaliated, one of the suspects was fatally injured while the other fled.

The police shifted the suspect’s body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a postmortem. Shah Latif SHO Inspector Amanullah Marwat claimed that efforts were underway to arrest the accomplice who escaped.

The SHO added that the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained and the dead body was moved to the Edhi Morgue.
