Institute of Psychiatry to host symposium on Tuesday
Rawalpindi: Institute of Psychiatry and WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Training and Research here at Benazir Bhutto Hospital is going to organise a symposium on Tuesday (April 11) in connection with World Health Day.
This year, the theme for World Health Day being observed on Friday around the globe is: “Depression: let’s talk” and the Institute of Psychiatry is holding symposium on the topic.
World Health Organization Representative to Pakistan Dr. Muhammad Assai Ardakani would be guest speaker at the symposium. Head at the Institute of Psychiatry at BBH Professor Fareed Aslam Minhas would serve as host while Principal of Rawalpindi Medical College and Chief Allied Hospitals Professor Muhammad Umar would attend the symposium.
Apart from leading professionals in the field of mental health serving at the Institute of Psychiatry, postgraduate trainees in psychiatry and psychology along with RMC students would attend the symposium.
According to Professor Fareed Minhas, the institute has planned to host an auspicious gathering of the leading professionals here at the lecture theatre of the institute with an objective of raising awareness of mental health issues particularly depression and mobilising efforts in support of mental health. He said the celebration of World Health Day with theme “Depression: let’s talk” provides an opportunity to all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their experiences and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people around the globe.
