Bail granted to DHA resident in child abuse case cancelled
A local court while entertaining senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shehzad’s bail plea in two cases related to the 1992 riots, issued a notice to the investigating officer to appear in court on April 14.
The court of the additional district and sessions judge concerned also directed the prison authorities to provide complete medical treatment to Shehzad, reportedly a cancer patient.
The cases were reopened soon after he had obtained bail in the case pertaining to provision of medical treatment and shelter to criminals at Dr Asim Hussain’s hospital.
During an informal talk with journalists at the court premises, the British national MQM leader said he had been visiting Pakistan but was only arrested after he raised slogans in favour of Pakistan.
He said those involved in corruption cases are given a warm welcome but he, who had committed no fault, was being implicated in false cases.

The court had issued NBWs for his arrest when he missed Monday's hearing and directed his counsel to ensure his presence at yesterday's proceedings.
As Rizwan, who had been granted bail for Rs200,000, missed a second consecutive hearing, the court cancelled his bail and confiscated the amount paid as surety. The court fixed April 6 to hear the case again and directed the investigation officer (IO) to arrest the absconding accused and produce him before the court.
A resident of Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, DHA, Rizwan along with his wife was booked in the case after the servant’s father complained that the couple torture his child and have kept him under detention for over a year. He was not allowed to meet his parents and neither had his wages for the past three months been paid.
