Justice for CCE-13

By our correspondents
March 30, 2017

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the results of the written and interview part of the combined competitive examinations (CCE) 2013 conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) null and void. The judgement has come as a shock to the qualifiers of the said examination. Students went through a three-year long process of the examination, were declared successful by the SPSC and were offered job appointments. The process of medical and police verification was also complete.

Owing to the technical nature of the process of the competitive examination, the case has not been properly presented and understood. Even the lawyers have been facing difficulties in understanding, for instance, the difference between a screening test and a written examination or the difference between a ‘failed’ candidate and an ‘unallocated’ one. The central point in the case was the ineligibility of the chairperson and some members of the SPSC. Even if the basis of the judgement is assumed to be valid, why has the CCE-13 been singled out solely? The alleged discrepancies, on the basis of which the whole examination has been nullified, are purely of an administrative nature. Many other aspects of the case have been overlooked. The students need justice. The SC is requested to form a larger bench to review the case.
