People of South Punjab rejected provincial government’s move to appoint additional chief secretary under the pretext to divide Punjab administratively and would launch a massive campaign against it, announced Muhammad Ali Durrani, who heads Movement for the Restoration of Bahawalpur Province, says a press release.

“The condemnable and unjust decision is absolutely against the unanimously passed resolution of Punjab Assembly, which endorsed the move to restore the provincial status of Bahawalpur apart from creation of a new province in the name of South Punjab that tantamount to insulting the provincial legislature, a sheer violation of the spirit of the Constitution and it’s 18th Amendment,” the former information minister said while expressing his reaction on the issue during his talk to media on Monday.

Durrani deplored saying, people of already deprived region of the province as well as the country, has once again been betrayed as Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif during 2013 elections had promised themselves in public gatherings in Bahawalpur that not only the Bahawalpur province would be restored but South Punjab province would also be created if they were elected to power.

“It was result of the promise made by the leadership with the people of our area even was even mentioned in election manifesto that PML-N secured 36 National Assembly seats from the region of Bahawalpur and South Punjab in 2013 general elections instead of its previous win of mere 8 seats from the same constituents” reminded the former senator.

Ali Durrani warned that people of South Punjab will not yield to such pressure tactics and from Minchan Abad to Rajanpur, a masses’ campaign would resist the agenda of adding further misery to poverty ridden area that deserved better resources and authority instead.
